@Theo : many thanks for sharing your opinion with our community. The purpose of my blog is to popularize scientific work not to write scientific articles. I understand as scientist you could find the information incomplete.

For your info the protocol was prepared and accomplished by Dr. Laurent Hermoye. The analysis was based on the contrast between two different websites. A real and specific task was asked to the subject. And finally, the BA6 was involved to realize the task and not to grab a cup of coffee ;)

Sorry, but this is nonsense. Even the low-level visual analysis is wrong. That there is more activity in one part of the visual cortex than in another only means that there is a difference in contrast, color or brightness between the left and right sides. Furthermore, since fMRI is pretty slow, this is averaged over the different places of focus, so it might just mean that people focus more on one side of the monitor than on the other. Or something completely different. You can't tell, because you have no proper baseline.

BA 44 and 45 are also active during linguistic processing, even purely syntactic, and I guess there was text on screen, so there's nothing to see here either. And again, what was the baseline?

BA6 covers the premotor cortex, and can be involved in anything, not just clicking, but also in moving the mouse, scrolling or grabbing a cup of coffee. There is no reason to assume it refers to clicking, unless you specified a task and had a correct baseline for comparison. If you want to know about clicking behaviour, give your subjects a button, that's a lot more informative.

Summarizing: we know nothing about facebook that we didn't know before.

This is really amazing! It means that you can precisely estimate the effectiveness of your wireframes by testing them with your tool. But all this does not guarantee that objective definition at the source will be relevant. Often, the problem comes from the objectives that have been identified for the website, that, in fact, do not meet the users needs. Your tool could also be used from the first step, with benchmarking tests, etc.

Thanks for this interesting article.
